Orion is probably one of the most famous constellations of the winter sky. It can be found nearby to the star Alnitak, one of the three stars that make up Orion’s belt.

Orion is full of amazing astronomical objects, both those suitable for visual observation with a telescope and the more hidden, accessible only by astrophotographic cameras. My today’s target is the dark nebula Bernard 33 , 1500 light-years distant, known also as the Horsehead Nebula, which lovely contrasts with the emission nebula IC434. The Horsehead Nebula looks beautiful against the backdrop of a cloud of hydrogen and dust, and although it appears to be quite small, its size is impressive. It spans about 3.5 light years. This area of the space is still active in terms of the birth of new stars.
